It began in 2012, when they discovered the cancer. Salle wanted to stay in Rolla since she had all the confidence in Dr. Joe Bond and his staff.

Surgery was involved to reduce the cancer. “Salle’s doctors, Dr. Joe Bond and Dr. Dana Voight, treat everyone like family and make sure you are comfortable,” said Ron Smith, Salle’s husband.

Dr. Bond told Salle know everything would be okay. She felt comfortable with them. Her experience with radiation oncology was wonderful and everyone felt like family.

Salle went through chemo, radiation, and physical therapy in the hope that the cancer would not return. On February 4th, 2015, it returned with a vengeance.

“She fought the battle for six months, but did not win,” said Smith. “I lost the love of my life.”

“She spent the last six weeks in the hospice and although she was fighting for her life, she made so many friends there. Everyone loved how she was always cheerful even in the face of what she was going through. Salle would sing the songs on the radio and everyone would sing right along with her. If she woke in the middle of the night, she would walk down to the nurse’s station and talk with the nurses,” said Smith.

Salle was very loved and the greatest person Ron ever knew.

“Due to her faith in God, family, and friends is what kept her so positive,” said Smith. “We take what is given to us and accept that journey. On August 14th, 2015 Salle passed from this world. She will be greatly missed.”
